Margaret Koval received her MFA from City & Guilds School of Art in London. In addition to her artistic practice, Koval has had a parallel career as a multimedia producer, documentary filmmaker, and Emmy-winning broadcast journalist.
Most pieces use oil paint on linen burlap, often exploiting the physical nature of these materials to create slippage between photography, painting, and needle crafts in the service of destabilizing the image.
Informed by a news and documentary perspective, Koval's works frequently emphasize urban spaces and indeterminate narratives. Ambiguity and uncertainty are major themes.
