Margaret Koval received her MFA from City & Guilds School of Fine Art in London. In addition to her artistic practice, Koval has had a parallel career as a multimedia producer,documentary filmmaker, and Emmy-winning broadcast journalist.

Most pieces use oil paint on canvas or high-grade burlap,  often exploiting the physical nature of these materials to create slippage between photography, painting, and needle crafts.

Informed by a news and documentary perspective, Koval's works frequently emphasize urban spaces and indeterminate narratives. Ambiguity and uncertainty are major themes.
